A donation of laptops to support learning and research among students in Atlantis was made last week by the Atlantis Special Economic Zone.
The handover to the West Coast TVET College took place on Tuesday 3 March and was attended by Atlantis Special Economic Zone leadership, including chief executive Matt Cullinan, alongside West Coast TVET College representatives, Atlantis campus manager Phumzile Nkuzo, staff and members of the Student Representative Council.
Waheeda Saib, chief financial officer of the Atlantis Special Economic Zone (ASEZ), said the initiative was intended to extend the impact of public resources while supporting students.
“At ASEZ, responsible asset management is not only about compliance and efficiency — it is about impact… Supporting digital access for students is an investment in human capital, and ultimately, in the long-term economic sustainability of the Atlantis region,” said Saib.
West Coast TVET College – the only TVET institution in the immediate area, plays an important role in developing technical and vocational skills for the region.
Cullinan said strengthening the link between industry and education remained central to the economic zone’s work.
“West Coast TVET College plays a pivotal role in developing the technical and vocational skills that our region depends on… ensuring that young people are equipped with the digital tools they need to participate fully in the modern economy,” said Cullinan.
The laptops are expected to assist students with research, assignments, online learning and digital submissions.
