Atlantis Special Economic Zone and Casidra sign MoU to advance sustainable development

In a significant move towards bolstering rural development, the Atlantis Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) has formalised a strategic alliance with Casidra, a leading agency in rural advancement. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed recently, aims to drive Sustainable Integrated Development in rural regions, with a particular focus on Agricultural and Economic Development within the context of Rural and Land Reform.
The MoU was endorsed by prominent representatives from both ASEZ and Casidra, marking a pivotal moment in their shared commitment to fostering impactful collaborations in the Atlantis community. This agreement underscores the dedication of both entities to enhancing their joint efforts in promoting sustainable and inclusive growth.
Mr. Selwyn, Integrated Eco Systems Executive of ASEZ, highlighted the importance of this partnership: “This MoU marks a decisive advancement in our mission to propel sustainable development in Atlantis. By uniting with Casidra, we leverage our collective expertise and resources to effectuate meaningful and enduring changes within the communities we serve. Our collaboration will not only boost agricultural and economic development but also facilitate the transition to an inclusive green economy, aligning with our broader goal of a Just Transition.”
David Nefdt, Chief Programme Officer of Casidra, reiterated these sentiments, noting, “The MoU, signed in June 2024, is aimed at jointly exploring opportunities for economic development and social impact, particularly in the West Coast of the Western Cape.
Casidra, a provincial Government Business Enterprise, focuses on Agriculture and Economic Development in rural contexts and seeks to build partnerships that mobilise local resources, encourage participation, and foster cooperation among local stakeholders.”
ASEZ is dedicated to developing a sustainable greentech Special Economic Zone, creating an optimal environment for the Green economy, integrated economic growth, and employment. It aspires to become Africa’s premier, globally competitive greentech manufacturing hub, showcasing high standards of governance, low carbon and resource-efficient development, and social inclusion.
The partnership will target several key areas:
- Agricultural Development: Enhancing sustainable farming practices and supporting local farmers to increase productivity and profitability.
- Economic Development: Generating job opportunities and driving economic growth through targeted initiatives and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
- Sustainable Development: Implementing environmentally friendly practices and projects that ensure long-term ecological health and community well-being.
