The critical role of women in advancing green technology and promoting sustainable development took centre stage at a dynamic round table discussion on 30 August 2024 at InvestSA in Cape Town, marking the close of Women’s Month.

The Atlantis Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) wrapped up Women’s Month with an impactful Women in Greentech Round Table Discussion at InvestSA in Cape Town’s CBD.

This inaugural event united top industry leaders, experts, and emerging talent to examine the significant role of women in advancing green technology and driving sustainable progress.

The discussion featured a distinguished panel, including Dr. Rethabile Melamu, CEO of the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA), Adinda Preller, Head of Business Development at Phelan Green Hydrogen, Siyasanga Tetyana, Human Resources Specialist and Moderator, Fezeka Stuurman, founder of Cultiver Group, and Yolanda Mabutho, founder of Divaine Growth Solutions. They addressed the impact of women’s leadership in Greentech and their contributions to the Just Energy Transition.

Preller stated, “The future of Greentech hinges on our ability to innovate and collaborate across sectors. Women have always driven change, and their leadership in the green economy is more essential than ever. It is heartening to see so many talented women making a significant impact.”

Stuurman stated, “A greener economy must be inclusive, ensuring that marginalised voices are integral to decision-making. At Cultiver, we are committed to empowering local communities and ensuring that the benefits of the Just Energy Transition reach those who need them most.”

Mabutho described the event as a significant step forward, saying, “This round table showcases women’s contributions to Greentech and fosters the innovation needed to tackle environmental challenges. It reflects the power of collaboration and the crucial role women play in shaping a greener future.”

A highlight of the day was the participation of ten schoolgirls from Atlantis, who had the chance to interact with industry leaders and explore career opportunities in sustainable technologies.

Moderator Tetyana wrapped up the event by stressing the importance of mentorship, stating, “Today’s discussions have demonstrated the value of connection and shared purpose. We must guide and support these young women as they navigate the industry and emerge as future leaders.”
