A semi-finalist in Mrs Curve South Africa is a beacon of strength and resilience as a 45-year-old mother of two children.
Angela Mbolekwa from Kuils River not only takes care of her family, she is also the founder of the Umngqunqa Wentokazi non-profit organisation and is determined to empower women and challenge traditional beauty standards. And if the wins the competition, she’ll represent South Africa at the Mrs Curve Globe pageant in California in June 2026.
Mbolekwa’s journey is one marked by overcoming adversity, embracing one’s true self, and inspiring others.
Divorced and remarried, she has faced significant challenges, including financial hardships that interrupted her education. Despite these obstacles, she remains steadfast in her pursuit of empowerment and social change.
“I grew up in the rural Eastern Cape, in Maclear, Tsolo. As a village girl, we were often disadvantaged,” she says. “We limited ourselves because of the scarcity of resources around us. We didn’t think outside the box. But I want women and young girls who live the life I lived to look at me and say, ‘It’s possible’.”
Mbolekwa has shared her life experiences with many, including her early marriage at 20, growing up in a devout Christian home, and the financial barriers that prevented her from furthering her education.
Her approach to beauty is rooted in self-love, body positivity, and women’s empowerment.
About her experiences in the Mrs Curve competition, Mbolekwa says the diversity of the participants has been inspiring.
“The women in this competition come from all walks of life: divorcees, widows, women with different body types, women who have lived full lives and traveled. This competition gives a voice to women who have different stories to tell,” she says. “It’s not just about beauty, it’s about showing the world that we are powerful, that we have a place in this world, no matter our size or shape.”
Having gone through a divorce in 2015 and now remarried, she says understands the value of second chances and sees them as opportunities for growth and empowerment.
Earlier this month, Mbolekwa was named one of the semi-finalists at an event held in Durban, a key milestone in her journey to claim the Mrs Curve South Africa title.
As part of the competition, public votes via a code will determine the winner of the Public Choice Award, which will guarantee automatic entry into the next stage.
To support her, voters can SMS VOTE ANGELA to 35180. Please note that SMSs cost R3 and free SMSs do not apply.
The more votes and likes she receives across both the Mrs Curve SA page and her personal social media pages, the better her chances of advancing.
The grand finale of Mrs Curve South Africa is set for October, with the exact date and venue yet to be confirmed. The winner will then represent South Africa at the Mrs Curve Globe in California in 2026, bringing a powerful message of beauty, self-worth, and strength to the global stage.
