The annual Cape Town City FC (CTCFC) DreamClub 100 programme for under-16 club teams in the Cape Metropolitan district, was officially launched on Sunday, 28 April at the DHL Cape Town Stadium.
The 2024 DreamClub 100 includes four teams from the Dunoon LFA (Dunoon YSA, Liverpool FC, FC Mimosa, Pioneer SC), and one from the Atlantis LFA (Jomo’s Power AFC). Cullen Perlman, DreamClub 100 coordinator, highlighted the program’s significance, noting that eight players from last year’s DreamClub now represent the u16 team.
DreamClub 100 invites 100 selected ‘Satellite Clubs’ to participate in the tournament, with 20 of the best players being picked for the Cape Town City FC Elite Academy. Participating clubs receive sponsored clothing for their under-16 team for the event, which begins in September with playoff matches. This annual development program is held in collaboration with SAFA Cape Town.
Cape Town City FC partners with 100 of the Western Cape’s top youth football clubs, providing expertise by introducing SAFA coaching licensing for their coaches, elite training programs for their players, and kit and equipment. The highlight of the program is the end-of-season u16 DreamClub100 Tournament, which selects the top promising amateur footballers to join Cape Town City’s academy.
CTCFC CEO Michel Comitis outlined the 2024 program’s goals: to create a legacy and develop new relationships with local clubs. He stated the importance of community building among amateur athletes and groups to provide opportunities for them to demonstrate their abilities.
Talent identification, marketing, health and nutrition, and other football club-related issues will be discussed. D licenses will once more be provided for the SAFA course, with the exact amount to be established.
CTCFC aims to be the starting point for Cape Town coaches to begin their official coaching careers. The playoffs in September will be held in three rounds, culminating in a 16-team tournament in October to determine the 2024 DreamClub winners.
CTCFC congratulated all clubs for attending the DreamClub 100 launch and joining in to watch CTCFC play in a PSL match against Lamontville Golden Arrows. The match ended in a draw.
