Young hockey stars gear up for five days of intense competition in Cape Town

As the 19th Cape Town International Hockey Tournament approaches, excitement mounts among emerging hockey stars set to showcase their skills from July 10 to July 14, 2024. Sponsored in part by the City of Cape Town, this prestigious event will draw over one thousand players from local, national, and international schools, converging across various venues in Cape Town, Paarl, and Stellenbosch.

A cornerstone of the U19 schools hockey calendar, the tournament will feature spirited competition from 64 schools, including formidable squads from Namibia and the UK. 

Cape Town will host matches at prominent venues such as Pinelands High School, Bishops Diocesan College, SACS, Rustenburg Girls High School, Parel Vallei High School, Somerset College, and Beaumont Primary School, promising an exhilarating display of talent.

Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith stated, “The Cape Town International Hockey Tournament stands as a beacon for our young hockey players nationwide. For nearly two decades, this event has nurtured local talent by pitting them against the best from home and abroad. As sponsors, we take pride in fostering the development of our youth and eagerly await the thrilling competition.”

Smith stated that over the five-day tournament, teams will clash in more than 200 matches, with the majority slated for Cape Town venues. From early morning skirmishes to late-night showdowns, the schedule promises action-packed days filled with strategic plays and goal-scoring opportunities.

Entrance to all venues is free, ensuring that fans and supporters can cheer on their favourite teams throughout the tournament.
