The halfway mark of the Dunoon LFA youth and senior league competitions have been reached, with the league to be decided with a one-round fixture.
In the men’s senior division, Chilly Boys FC of Joe Slovo is topping the log with 12 points following their slaughter of FC Mimosa by 6-1 on Saturday 24 June at the Dunoon sports grounds.
After four games, Chilly Boys FC holds a commanding lead on the log standings with Liverpool following just behind them with seven points, but still have a game in which to catch up. These two teams are the only unbeaten teams in the league, but Liverpool dropped two points when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Revelations FC in the second game of the league competition on Saturday 29 April at the Dunoon sports grounds.
The convincing result by Chilly Boys on Saturday 24 June sent a strong message to Liverpool, telling them they have to be really good if they want to beat them in week nine when they face each other in the penultimate match.
Due to the league only being played on a one-round, fireworks can be expected when Liverpool and Chilly Boys clash in mid-August as they can’t afford to drop points on the road.
In the youth league, FC Mimosa tops the under-10 and under-12 with nine and 12 points respectively, and look like the league contenders, but anything can happen in the next six weeks.
Liverpool remains the log leader in the under-14 division, with Pioneer SC in second place. It will be interesting to see who will come out on top when the two teams meet each other in August.
In the under-16 division, 50-50 FC are in the driving seat, leading the log with just two points over Pioneer SC. The point difference between log leaders 50-50 FC and fourth-placed team Celtic FC is only three points, and one point between them and third-placed Lokshin Spurs.
The under-18 division is a little behind with scheduled matches, with Coca-Cola and Dennis Goldberg matches and postponements due to water-logged fields at the Dunoon sports grounds in May. The surprise package of the under-18 league is undoubtedly Lokshin Spurs and Revelation FC, both of whom have six points on the log after two matches, but Spurs are placing first due to a better goal average.
In the Regional Women’s League of SAFA Cape Town, Real Brazilian Women FC of Dunoon is in a good position after their convincing 3-0 win over the UWC women’s football team.
With the win over UWC, they move to fifth place after seven matches, but play three games less than the other teams.
