Killarney Raceway partners with Iliso Labantu to coordinate donation delivery

As families from Doornbach informal settlement began navigating the aftermath of the fire, relief arrived in the form of basic household items intended to ease immediate pressure on those who lost their homes.
The assistance included cooking utensils, clothing for adults and children, shoes, and drinking water. The items were distributed directly to affected households, with a focus on meeting basic needs in the days following the disaster.
The relief effort was mobilised by Killarney International Raceway, which worked with Iliso Labantu News to coordinate distribution on the ground. Iliso Labantu News oversaw delivery through its networks in informal settlements to ensure the donations reached families most affected.
The collaboration builds on an existing relationship between the two organisations. During Cape Town’s 2018 Day Zero water crisis, when the city came close to running out of municipal water, they worked together to deliver fresh water to Dunoon residents.
The fire also affected members of the Killarney community; at least three raceway staff members lost their homes and possessions in the blaze.
Further assistance followed over the weekend. On Saturday 17 January, Racing for Change, a non-profit organisation that uses motorsport initiatives to support community upliftment and youth development, handed 50 boxes of school stationery to the humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers at the Killarney Race track.
The Africa Muslims Agency also donated two large bundled bags of winter blankets, which were handed over at Killarney Racecourse in the presence of Iliso Labantu News and community leaders. The items were transported by Iliso Labantu News to the municipal offices at the Dunoon community hall for distribution.
Another non-profit organisation that raised and provided relief items was Yizani Kuthi, which distributed the donations directly to fire victims.
Astron Energy refinery donated funds to the humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers to support fire victims.
