A suspect linked to the harrowing murder and rape of a young woman in Dunoon earlier this month has been arrested and will appear in court tomorrow, Friday 24 January 2025.

The case first drew attention on New Year’s Day, when the lifeless, naked body of a 26-year-old woman was discovered inside a locked shack on Ngena Street in Dunoon. Police later revealed that the victim had been raped and strangled to death, sparking outrage and grief within the community.

On Thursday 23 January, Milnerton SAPS spokesperson Captain Nopaya Madyibi stated that investigators identified a male suspect who was reportedly the last person seen at the house before the grim discovery.

Madyibi said the suspect, originally from the Nyanga area, had evaded police for weeks and was believed to be hiding in Grabouw.

The breakthrough, Madyibi explained, came on Tuesday 21 January 2025, when members of Barrydale SAPS, during routine patrols, encountered a man exhibiting suspicious behaviour. Upon questioning, the man admitted to being wanted in connection with the Dunoon case.

“He was immediately arrested,” said Madyibi.

She added that the 40-year-old suspect remains in custody and is expected to face charges in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court.

“This arrest marks a significant step forward in the investigation, bringing hope to the victim’s grieving family and the Dunoon community, who had called for swift justice,” she said.

Police have urged anyone with additional information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
